There is a theory that the Krapinske Toplice thermal springs have been known and used since ancient times and that Krapinske Toplice were then called Aquae Vivae. The first mention of Krapinske Toplice dates back to 1334 and at the beginning of the 18 th century the Krapinske Toplice was the most famous bathing place in the then Austro-Hungarian.
The true blossoming of Krapinske Toplice happened in 1859 when the famous retailer Jakov Badl buys existing and builds new baths (Jakobova, Marijina and Pučka kupelj). In addition, a hotel, a spa, a restaurant (Bellevue) are built, and the parks and alley are formed. For this reason Krapinske Toplice is becoming the favorite bathing resort of the Austro-Hungarian elite. About the quality of the then tourist offer of Krapinsko Toplice is the fact that in 1882 and 1885 they won the gold medal for tourist quality at international exhibitions. In the mid-20 th century, a Bathing Spa was established, which about ten years later was transformed into a Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and Rehabilitation.
